This is my Dawes Galaxy it dates from about the 1980's im guessing, it was due to be scrapped but my dad saved it and had it rebuilt using spare parts. It rides really well and is great on the road. The parts are well worn and i am now in the process of stripping it down having it resprayed and rebuilt... im debating whether to have it rebuilt to original spec or have it converted to take modern parts. I shall post pics of the rebuild.
This is a Claud Butler mountain bike from mid 1990's which i was given by a friend in 2005. It was a good bike in its day and is lightweight today. I dont know which model it is and would like to find this out. I used it regularly to get to the station and rides on the beach. I recently resprayed and replaced many parts as it was starting to struggle. i replaced the bottom bracket, derailuers, brakes, gear shifters, cables and grips!
This is a Dawes Street hybrid bike i built from the frame, which was brand new. It has shimano wheels, 8spd sora cassette and derailuer, dura ace cranks, ultegra front mech and schwalbe tyres.
This is a Giant Terrago Disc spring Edition bought from Winstanley bikes in 2007 to get me back into mountain biking for £325 rrp £500. It is an Alu 19" frame Deore 27 chainset with Suntour XCT 100mm forks and Giant Mph hydraulic brakes. This bike was a great entry level bike which performed amazingly for 3 years which i have recently sold. It handled everything i threw at it cruising through Brechfa trails on many many occassions and Affan Forest as well as local forests.
Here we have the Kona Stinky 08 which i bought in Feb 2010 for a introduction into some serious downhilling. its a awesome peice of kit with 7" of front and rear travel and amazing hayes stroker trail hydraulic brakes. This bike flew down Cwm Carn dh course and Rheola. You dont even feel the bumps and jumps using this beast! However this bike is only really usable for DH as it is heavy and not good for going up the hills. Im looking to sell this as i dont get the chance to go to the DH tracks very often and want to use the money from this to buy a new lightweight cross country rig.
This was my first mountain bike i got when i was about 10, well this was my older brothers i had the 18" frame on 26" wheels but same model the Apollo Atomic 18spd shimano sis gears it has the GT triple triangle frame. Dont know where mine went to! We cycled many miles on these old things we did cycle tours round Shropshire Youth hostels staying at Wilderhope manor and ludlow, shrewsbury and ironbridge and a few others. I also cycled from Carmarthen to St Davids on this stopping at the YHA along the way. Great touring which i hope to do again sometime! On a more suitable bike next time.
This is a Carrera Gryphon Disc i bought recently as an investment as i got it cheap and sold it on for a nice profit good hybrid bike but never really used it.
Here we have a Merlin Rock Lobster Team Tig Frame which i built up into a xc rig very light weight frame. It deserves top quality components which i didnt have the funds to give it so after building it up i stripped it back down and sold off for a small profit. I wouldnt mind buying another from Merlin Cycles one day.. maybe the titanium version!
Im currently down sizing my bike collection as i want to pool my money from the sale of these bikes to purchase a new top end xc bike. I have several bikes i have my eye on which i hope to own soon, they are;
Specialized Epic Comp 2010 rrp £2k
or
Giant Anthem X4 2010
My plan is to buy a Super duper xc rig but also have a every day cheap hack prob my Claud Butler, a new road bike and to build up my Galaxy as a touring rig!! I am now sorting out a new Bike workshop in the garden will add pics when this is ready.
